Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku impresses with its rooftop onsen, offering both indoor and semi-outdoor hot water pools where guests can unwind, sometimes complemented by free ice cream. The hotel boasts immaculately clean and modern rooms, some featuring tatami floors and offering amazing city views, particularly from higher floors, with comfortable beds and yukatas. While some found the rooms a bit small, the convenience of having a 7-Eleven right outside the hotel for snacks and other needs, along with easy access to Shinjuku station via a short taxi ride, is a definite plus.

Excellent Hotel with Great Amenities

hotel facilitieshelpful staffcomfy bedsquiet location
I found the hotel facilities to be excellent. It has both an onsen and a laundry. The staff assisted with check-in and with organizing an early morning taxi for my flight. I experienced the best sleep during my trip because of the super comfy beds. The location is quite quiet.
The absence of individual climate control was somewhat bothersome. The room temperature is centrally managed for the building.
Rooms
9/10
The room provided two sachets of tea daily when requested. There was no coffee or milk. The mattress was a standard type and I felt no springs. The pillow was firm. Housekeeping was always very efficient and attentive.
Location
10/10
The setting is relaxing yet within walking distance of the very busy district. I found that a convenience store is just outside the hotel, providing extra ease. The beautiful National Gardens nearby are very much worth a visit.
Service
9/10
The staff provided assistance in English, and were helpful and attentive . Check-in was quick with the automated system. I found staff greeted me each morning with a smile and a greeting.
Dining
8/10
The hotel restaurant features amazing cuisine at nearly Michelin levels and reservations are required. A Japanese breakfast is available. I noticed the water dispenser was restocked daily and was easily accessible.

decent stay with some minor drawbacks

quiet atmospherebeautiful decorgood dinnersmall roomsink proximityharsh lighting
i appreciated the quiet atmosphere. it was a nice escape from the busy area. the hotel decor was beautiful and in good taste. the onsen offered city views. i also had a good dinner at the restaurant.
the room was small and not as spacious as i expected. the sink was too close to the mirror so splash marks were common. i found the lighting a bit harsh in the room.

Acceptable Hotel Experience

the onsen on the roof was very nice. i found it very relaxing and the whole space was very clean. it was nice that frozen yogurt popsicles were available after using the onsen in the top floor lounge.
the room was tiny. only two lifts meant a long wait. i found that much better value and better service hotels are available.
